J.Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive

J.Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive

After being leaked a week early, I was so thirsty to hear J. Cole’s new album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive! When I finally listened to it on the actual release date I wasn’t surprised with the outcome because Cole never fails. I’ve been a huge Cole fan for some time now after my best friend Dylan put me on…and I’ve been in love ever since. Seriously, he’s thee hottest rapper out right now. I’m not the type of person to want to listen to Migos 24/7, I want to hear some good story-telling stuff and that’s what he brings to the table. You can really tell that he put his all into this album and from the responses on social media everyone loved it.

Cole seriously gave us a glimpse of his life on this album. He starts us off from the very beginning on his birthday with ‘January 28th’ to ‘Wet Dreamz’ taking us through his first time having sex. Each song is a stage in his life from ’03 Adolescence’, just entering college and struggling to him coming up in the rap game in ‘Fire Squad’. In the album as he’s telling his life story in 13 tracks, he’s learning the true meaning of happiness. The Hollywood Cole isn’t him and the material things don’t mean anything, and he learns that true happiness is what’s most important. Towards the end of the album he ends it with showing his mother the appreciate she ‘Apparently’ deserves and explains that he’s learned that there isn’t a life better than your own in ‘Love Yourz’.

The album is very personable and offers a good in depth look of Jermaine Cole’s life and I loved listening to every second of it. He’s so insightful and that’s what I love about him the most. If I could I would marry him on the spot. J.Cole is the only rapper I know of our time that is so humble and actually cares about what is going on in society. He started the ‘F*ck Love Spread Love’ tour where he tweeted ‘no routing just riding out’ where he’s going from city to city actually meeting fans, signing CDs, and conversing with them in sweats straight off his tour bus. What rapper do yall know in 2014 that has done that? None. He’s one of the realest rappers out right out.

Check out this interview with him and Angie Martinez and seriously listen to 2014 Forest Hills Drive from beginning to end, it’s worth it.
