The BET Awards this year was amazing! Sometimes I will admit there are some blah moments but this year it was SO good in my opinion! It didn’t have ANY boring moments, everyone looked amazing, and the performances literally had me out of my seat. The pre-show was well put together thanks to my idols Lala Anthony and Terrance J, they had everything moving smoothly and definitely had me entertained getting all the tea on the celebs. During the whole night I was so excited because I didn’t expect it to be this good! I have made a list of “Yay Moments” and “WTF Moments” of the night, here they are:
- Lil Mama performing ‘Sausage’
I’m not sure why Lil Mama made a song called sausage and I’m really not sure why she was invited to perform a song called sausage. Twitter of course was clowning her the whole time and here is their reaction lol.
- Sam Smith winning Best New Artist
Stay With Me is a good song and all, well personally I’m really not a fan, but how did he win over the other nominees!? Bobby Shmurda had one of the biggest singles WITH a dance, Dej Loaf had Try Me which was HUGE, Fetty Wap…come on now, Rae Sremmurd is always live as f, and Tinashe killed it with Too On! This was a tough list but I feel like Smith should have not won but hey, J.Cole did warn us.
- J.Cole not winning Best Male Hip-Hop Artist
I’m sure you guys know how I feel about J. Cole if not click here to see why I believe he’s the best rapper! I know Cole doesn’t do it for the awards but I do feel like he should be getting acknowledge for his works and his talents. Why did he not win this?!
- Rihanna & BBHMM
The preview for the video actually looked really good and I was so mad that it stopped when it did. I was expecting a little more but let’s rewind. Before going on stage it looked like Rihanna started to argue with Stephen Hill of BET and throws a stack of money in his face. At first I was so confused like damn, what’s really going on, but this morning, media outlets say it was staged.
- Where was Future?
The award show kept saying Future was going to perform but he didn’t make it to bless the stage. Was it because Ciara literally was one of the biggest performers that night?
Now for the YAY moments…
- Bad Boy Records taking the stage
Bad Boy made the whole show for me! I was just so excited to see 112, Faith, Diddy, Lil’ Kim, dang near everybody! They gave me so much life  I couldn’t take it, I was jumping out of my seat! When Faith came out I went crazy and when Lil Kim came from under the ground I was like YASSSSSSSS! (Even though Diddy gave it away with his fall) I couldn’t even take it. Then this morning Diddy posted on Instagram that there will be a Bad Boy Family Tour! I will seriously save up to go to that but he has to bring out Danity Kane and Day26.
- Tom Joyner’s speech
Tom Joyner laid knowledge on these young kids. He received the Humanitarian award for his work and dedication to HBCUs. He spoke about how we need to save our black media and we can’t expect them to tell our story. He also told about the importance of HBCUs and how no one else can educate us better than us. Â I seriously used to wake up to listen to The Tom Joyner Morning Show on WGCI. He seriously deserved it and I hope some young people get the message he was pushing.
- The Game Cast Reunion
I love The Game cast and I’m so happy that for the final season Melanie and Derwin are coming back! I feel as though the show may have fell off because they were no longer on there, but it was cool to see everyone together and getting that announcement. The Game is a good show so I will definitely be tuned in once it returns.
- Nicki & Meek are the hottest couple out!Â
Omeeka had all eyes on them as they caked the whole night. Nicki won Best Hip-Hop Female Artist for the 6th year in a row and not only did she bring up her mom with her to accept the award but she also made sure to shout out her baby Meek. They performed their new joint ‘All Eyes On You’ with Chris Brown and I can say I love the song. But the show wasn’t over until the queen of shade threw some! I’m sure it was all toward ex boyfriend Safaree that was reportedly banned from the award show. Anyways I love Nicki and I really love her with Meek Mill.
- Janet Jackson TributeÂ
Yes! Queen Janet looked gorgeous as won the first-ever Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award. Tribute performances were by Tinashe, Jason Derulo, and the best Ciara. It was 25 years since Rhythm Nation and she gracefully accepted her award. I’m sure we all thought she was going to perform but sike.
- Chris BrownÂ
Chris brown was all over the place with the awards show but in a good way 😉 ! He was performing with everyone, dancing and vibing with the music, and accepted his awards with an amazing speech! He also performed his new single Liquor which will be on his new album this fall. Big Sean also dropped his new video to his song Play No Games that featured Chris and Ty Dollar $ign. The video was amazing and there’s no other words for it. I can’t explain how much I love Chris and his goofy energy!
Favorite Outfits of the Night
Of course my fav Lala killed it.
I love Naturi and this dress was designed by a high school student in her hometown of East Orange, New Jersey. I applaud her for giving a huge opportunity like that to someone in her hometown.
I love the glitz and glam which is why I love this look, but not the hair on Zendaya.
Slay Rih, that’s it.
For it’s 15th anniversary, BET did a crazy amazing show. It gave us a lot and it was truly something that I can’t wait to experience one day in person!
