As the steam from the hot cup of tea has started to cool off, I really started to think about the bigger picture in the coming out of Caitlyn Jenner. There’s way more to this situation than Bruce Jenner becoming a transgender.

Of course at first I was wondering how could someone at the age of 65 all of a sudden decide…NOW is the time that I want to change my sex and become a completely different person. I laughed at all the jokes and the memes and then I realized that Jenner’s sex change was actually a positive thing.

When really looking at things I want to applaud her for finally deciding to be her true self. No one deserves to live 65 years and not being their true self.  I have a couple of gay best friends and even a transgender at my university and I can see how hard that is when they’re only being themselves.

CaitlynAccording to CBS News, Jenner went through ten hours worth of facial feminization surgery but she’s yet had the gender reassignment surgery. Facial feminization surgery included everything to make ‘him’ turn into a ‘her’ such as, cheek augmentation, reducing the size of the Adam’s apple, lip lifting, and most importantly the reshaping of eyebrows. Caitlyn says that she’s “the new normal.”

Luckily she had the whole Kardashian/Jenner lovers behind her for all types of support! Bossip reported NBA player, Dennis Rodman left a message to her saying, “If you wanna go on a date with me brotha, let me know.“ Others on social media sent their kind words her way after she broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest Twitter account to reach one million after only four hours.

Unfortunately there are 700,000 transgender people in the United States according to E! News and I’m pretty sure not even 1/4 of them will get the support that Caitlyn has received. I’m not going to overload you with the statistics of how many transgender individuals are homeless,  experience inequality in the job force, or those who will be psychically assaulted.

Since Caitlyn was such a big hit, I’m hoping that this will open up doors and break down barriers for other ‘Caitlyns’ in the nation. So many others are faced with identity troubles their whole lives but lack the luxury of a huge support team or the funds to get surgeries.

E! is presenting a Docu-Series, I Am Cait to get the first look into the new life of Caitlyn Jenner and how it’s affecting the people around her which is set to premiere July 26, at 9 p.m.

This has inspired others to finally come out of their shells and of course, because there is a reality show for everything; we will be able to watch others make their transformations in the new ABC Family series Becoming Us produced by Ryan Seacrest.

All this is crazy and has caused a huge media buzz. I’m just hoping that out of all the craze Caitlyn has caused, this opens the minds of those who don’t understand that we are all different and deserve to live the life that we want.
