Third Annual Go DJ Awards celebrates Houston Artists and Culture

The hottest celebrities in Houston flooded the NRG Center for the third annual Go DJ Awards hosted by 97.9 The Box’s JJ on the Mic and MC Kane and The Downtown Tea along with News With Attitude got the scoop.

The night was filled of hip-hop, entertainment, and honoring those who have made a difference in the Houston community.

The night was very rich in the H-Town culture as Houston’s biggest named stars were in attendance like Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Zro, Kirko Bangz, Just Brittany, and Jhonni Blaze.

Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner honored media professionals Nakia Cooper, James Prince Sr., Ron Jemison Jr., Isiah Carey, Jeffrey Boney, and Lydia Harris and making July 18 the official Go DJ Awards Day in Houston.

Artists were honored in the different categories of video of the year, best new artist, song of the year, female DJ of the year, male DJ of the year, song of the year, and best club night of the year.

Houston legend, Paul Wall took home two awards for Best Collaboration and Video of the Year for Swangin’ in the Rain (remix) encouraging that every Houston artist should be using their platform to put on for the city.

Mr. I Just Pulled Off the Lot, DJ XO won producer of the year and song of the year and humbly accepted his award not expecting to win.

“I have a lot of new music about to drop, so stay tuned,” said XO.

Performances from Just Brittany, City 1000, Nessacary, Jhonni Blaze, and Tami Roman’s daughter Jazz kept the crowd entertained.

It wouldn’t be a Houston event without a tribute to those who’ve passed who’ve built the Houston legacy Pimp C, Big Moe, Wicket Cricket, DJ Screw, and more.

The whole night attendees kept their H’s up along with their Houston pride supporting everyone who won an award or blessed the stage.

The highest awards of the night, Female DJ of the Year Award went to 93.7 The Beat’s DJ Shaunte, Male DJ of the Year to 97.9 The Box’s DJ Hi C, and Best Club Night of the Year went to Engine Room Fridays.

Go DJ Awards was founded by DJ Hi C alongside the Go DJ Global Houston based network of over 250 DJs to have a platform to “attracts DJs from across the world, helping new and established artists gain increased exposure and visibility, and the opportunity to reach new listeners, fans and music industry decision makers.”
