Feel All Over the Place? Find Your Life’s Purpose with Ikigai

It’s been a minute!

If you’re reading this, I just want to say thank you.  Thank you for tuning in.  Thank you for being apart of this journey of finding myself while adulting.

I don’t know about you, but I’m 23, just graduated college a year ago and working in an entry-level part-time position. I got up and relocated from Texas to the DMV area and I don’t know what I’m doing.  I’m simply dreaming chasing and it’s tough.  Sometimes I literally have no idea of what I’m doing.  I’m going day by day (kind of) aimlessly trying to figure it out.

Every day I have the struggle of being uncomfortable AF.  Just like this blog post, I just feel all over the place.  I’m teaching myself that sometimes, it’s OK to not have all the answers.  I’m a Capricorn, I feel like I have to solve every problem and I like to have things in order.  If they’re not, I go crazy.

Something that I found one day by searching on Instagram was Ikigai.  When I found it, I knew that it could put me at ease! According to the Japanese people, Ikigai is believed to be the secret to a long fulfilling life.  Immediately, I knew I had to invest in this idea.

If you’ve listened to my podcast The Last Mimosa with my best friend Hannah, you know I made this a life activity for both of us to figure out what we wanted in life.

So for each outside circle, we made 5 bullet points.  For ‘what the world needs’, I made a list of 5 things I think the world needs, from there for each word, we created a sentence from what we gathered from the bullet points.

For example:

What You Love

-Looking pretty

-Black people

What You’re Good At

-Creating Ideas

-Being organized

-Media related things

-Coming up with solutions to problems

So when those two bubbles collide, you get your passion.  For my passion, I wrote a sentence that I felt made sense with what related to both section’s bullet points.

My passion is using creative ideas to communicate with people by sharing or telling stories.

Once you fill in all the bubbles and come with each sentence, then you’ll learn your reason for being.  The diagram shows why it’s important to have all the balance because, without one or the other, your feelings will be affected.

If you’re like me and feel like you’re all over the place, you can get it together.  Take the steps that are needed for you specifically.  Whatever works for you, do it and share with others because we’re all trying to figure it out, day by day.

If you do this exercise, share with me via social media! Let me know how it’s helped you to find clarity in your life.
